Own It: Build a Closet Focused on YOU!
Let’s be honest—style can feel complicated. One minute you’re loving the oversized blazer vibe, the next you're wondering why you own five and wear none. Sound familiar?
I’ve chased my fair share of fashion trends. Bought the statement pieces. Tried the “must-haves.” I’d get inspired by what looked amazing on that model —only to feel let down when it didn’t quite work on me.
I had to pause and relearn what I actually loved—what colors made me feel good, what silhouettes flattered my shape, and most importantly, what made me feel like me.
So I stopped chasing and started curating. I got intentional. I became determined to define my style avatar—that version of me who’s confident, grounded, and stylish on her own terms.
And let me tell you—once you find her, you stop second-guessing and start owning your style with ease.
Here’s how I did it—and how you can too.
🧩 Step 1: Define Your Style
Before I ever stepped foot in a thrift store, I had to get clear on what I actually like to wear. Not what’s trending.
I asked myself:
• What are my go-to outfits?
• What silhouettes make me feel confident?
• What pieces do I wear on repeat without even thinking?
• What pieces do I wear on repeat without even thinking?
Turns out, I’m a denim-and-silk kind of girl with a soft spot for vintage leather jackets and anything rust-colored. Once I realized that, it got a whole lot easier to say “no” to the noise and “yes” to my style.
You’re not building a costume—you’re building your personal uniform.
🎨 Step 2: Pick a Color Palette
Choosing a color palette was a game-changer. I picked two base colors (navy blue and beige) and a couple of accent colors (rust and olive green). Suddenly, everything started working together—like magic.
Mixing and matching got easier. Outfits felt cohesive. And honestly, shopping became way less overwhelming.
Capsules aren’t about limitation—they’re about freedom. A good palette gives you the power to style with ease.
🧥 Step 3: Start with the Staples
I stopped trying to own everything and started focusing on owning the right things. Here’s what I built my capsule around:
A couple of tops I could wear on repeat
Two bottoms I genuinely loved (yes, one was vintage Levi’s)
A layering piece for every season
A versatile jumpsuit I can dress up or down
A pair of boots + sneakers
Accessories that made it all feel me
All secondhand. All chosen with care.
All perfectly me.
🔄 Step 4: Mix, Match, and Edit
Here’s where the fun starts. I played around with combos, layered pieces in new ways, and—this is key—I let go of anything that didn’t fit or vibe with at least 3 other items.
Owning your style means being honest. If it doesn’t feel good or spark joy (thanks, Marie Kondo), it’s probably not capsule-worthy.
Editing is part of the process. It’s how you make space for the stuff you actually love.
🌎 Step 5: Thrift Thoughtfully
This is where The Thrifted Capsule comes in. We drop curated capsule styles every month—designed to help you build your wardrobe without the stress of sorting through piles or wondering what works together.
Every piece is secondhand, selected with intention, and ready to slot into your style story.
No fast fashion. No closet clutter. Just you, owning your look, one capsule at a time.
So start owning your personal style. It’s not about perfection. It’s about alignment. Confidence. Circular fashion that makes sense and makes you feel good.
